From pines to cactuses
Our special compilation for cruiseship-traveler who want to experience La Palma as “pure nature”.
The following description is only one of the possible variations, there are many deviations that you can check on our GPS-Tour-collection.
Just ask if you find a tour particularly exciting, we usually get something organized.
After an introduction to the electric Bikes in Los Cancajos, the shuttle takes us first to the mountain to the receation-area Pared Vieja at 1200 m altitude. From there we follow the paved road a bit uphill before following the ridge (1400 m) between East and West with fantastic views on both sides of the island to the Reventon Pass.
After a pit stop, we look again at the route from the opposite perspective, and then – if desired, strengthened by a coffee – we go for the descent. The landscape changes from the typical Canarian pine forest to subtropical laurel plants and shallow vegetation with bushes and overgrown fruit trees, to be traversed by agricultural land. We admire the characteristic steep wall of the Niquiomo (1277 m) and wonder about occasional perspectives.
Below the Niquiomo, the track joins the paved narrow street, where the more comfortable part of the descent begins. Spectacular viewpoints now line the path. First we reach the “Mirador de Las Toscas” (736 m), then continue on the GR130 to the “Montana de la Brena” (565 m) with a unique view over Santa Cruz and its surroundings, the Brenas and finally we have alook at the famous ancient dragon trees “Dragos gemelos”.
Arriving in Los Cancajos there is still time for a refreshing swim in the Atlantic, a coffee on our terrace and then the cruiseship is calling.
About 4 hours, distance: 46 km , Altitude: 1600 m predominantly downhill
Note: bring wind / rain jacket, at higher altitudes it can be cloudy and cooler and sometimes rain.
